Just Do Now: A Versatile Sans Serif Font for Modern Branding Projects

Starting Fresh with a Blank Brand Board

There’s something exciting—and a little intimidating—about opening a new brand board for a client. The project I was kicking off was for a small, independent coffee roastery looking to launch their first full brand identity. They wanted something clean, approachable, and modern. As I started sketching out ideas, I knew typography would play a big role in shaping the visual tone. That’s when I reached for Just Do Now, a basic yet expressive sans serif display font I’d recently added to my toolkit.

First Impressions: Testing Just Do Now in Logo Design

The first thing I did was test Just Do Now in a few logo variations. It’s a sans serif with a strong personality—clean, bold, and confident without being too rigid. It has a subtle warmth that makes it feel human and approachable, which was perfect for a small-batch coffee brand. I tried it in all caps for a strong logotype, and the spacing felt naturally balanced. No awkward letter collisions or overly tight kerning. It worked well as a standalone wordmark, especially in a minimalist black-and-white version for packaging and social media.

What stood out right away was how Just Do Now handled contrast. Even at smaller sizes, like on a business card or product label, it remained legible and sharp. That’s a big win when you’re designing across multiple touchpoints—from a website header to a sticker on a coffee bag.

Exploring Use Cases Across Brand Materials

Once the logo direction was approved, I started building out the rest of the brand system. Just Do Now is described as a display font suitable for logos, headlines, and packaging—so I wanted to put that to the test.

Designing for Readability and Brand Recognition

One of the key strengths of Just Do Now is how it balances bold presence with readability. It’s definitely best suited for headlines, short copy, and accent text rather than long-form body content. That makes it ideal for brand identity projects where the font is used in logos, packaging, or promotional materials rather than in editorial design.

As a display font, it helps establish a strong visual identity. When used consistently across touchpoints—like on a shop sign, product label, or homepage hero section—it builds instant brand recognition. The café client loved how their new brand looked cohesive and modern, especially when applied to both digital and physical formats.

Font Pairing Tips for a Balanced Look

While Just Do Now holds its own, it also plays well with others. I paired it with a more neutral sans serif for body copy and secondary text. A light-weight serif font also worked surprisingly well in editorial-style layouts, like a blog post or printed menu. The contrast between the bold display font and a softer serif created a nice visual rhythm without clashing.

For more creative projects, like a music festival poster or a boutique apparel tag, I experimented with pairing Just Do Now with a script or handwritten font. It gave the design a dynamic, layered feel while keeping the main message clear and bold.

Practical Advice for Real Client Work

If you’re considering using Just Do Now in a branding or packaging project, here are a few practical tips from my experience:

  1. Test it across mediums: Make sure it looks good on both screen and print. Try it on business cards, packaging mockups, and digital banners to see how it holds up.
  2. Check for alternates and ligatures: While Just Do Now is a basic font, it includes various styles and weights that can add depth to your design. Use them to create subtle variations without switching fonts.
  3. Verify licensing: Since this is a commercial font, double-check the license to ensure it can be used in both digital and print deliverables for your client.
  4. Consider language support: If your client operates in multilingual markets, confirm that the font supports extended character sets.

Final Thoughts on Using Just Do Now

After completing the coffee roastery project, I found myself reaching for Just Do Now again on a few other client jobs—especially for brands that needed a modern, confident look without overcomplicating the design. Whether it’s for a handmade shop logo, a magazine cover, or a game poster, this sans serif typeface delivers a clean, contemporary feel that works across industries.

It’s not a one-size-fits-all font, but it’s a solid choice when you need a display font that’s both expressive and functional. As a designer, I appreciate how it bridges the gap between personality and professionalism—making it a valuable addition to any brand toolkit.
